Caterpillar 287B Skid Steer Loader

We just got in a Caterpillar 287B Skid Steer loader in today. It has enclosed cab with Air Conditioning and heat. It has a really nice ride. Talk about a nice piece of equipment, the controls are jotstick, the left hand controls where you travel, and the right hand controls the boom and bucket. It also has a foot throttle as well as the standard hand throttle. It has a bobtach, meaning you can change the attachments without ever leaving the air conditioned cab. I absolutley love this Skid Steer. Two thumbs up fro Cat 287B.

Not having the right skid steer for the job can be dangerous

I was speaking with a man today who was looking for a used skid steer to unload trucks where the items weighed 2000lbs. There were people who told him he could unload the items with a skid steer rated for less than the 2000lbs if he went very slow. WRONG! That is dangerous! When a skid steer company desides what the operating load will be, they put the machine on a flat surface with the skid steer boom lifted at full hieght and add weight until the machine tops forwards, the amount of weight that makes the machine tip forwards is called the tipping load, from that figure they will use 50% as the operating load. The operating load is about half of the tipping load. While it is true that it is safer to carry a load lower to the ground when traveling, you should always use a skid steer that has a operating load that is equal or above the weight you intend to carry. Being safe should always be your first concern.

Picking out a Skid Steer to use a Auger

I got off the phone this morning with a man who was searching for a used skid steer for his fence company. He was considering a S150 Bobcat. After we spoke he had completley changed his mind. The reason a S150 Bobcat is a poor choice for drilling holes is that it is light weigt trie machine. What you need if your in the fence building business is a rubber track skid steer because you will encounter deep sand or muddy condition where a tire skid steer will not be able to get around, and a rubber track machine would be able to get around without getting stuck. Another factor that he did not consider is the down presure he was going to need to drill holes easily. Yes down presure is probabaly the most impotant factor in being able to drill holes fast and easy. I know some of you may think that a high gpm hydraulics system on a skid steer is what makes a difference, but you do not need speed to drill holes effectivly, you need down pressure, slow with a lot of weight is what you need, That being said, the heaviest rubber track skid steer loader that you can find is the best skid steer to drill holes.

Skid Steer Information

This is a Skid Steer information video I found while searching for a used skid steer loader, I found it very helpful information.

Case Skid Steer

I like the Case Skid Steers also. because they are reliable and the parts are easy to come by. The parts are also less expensive than some Skid steer loader brands! If I had to have amy Case, I think I would chhose the Case 450Ct Track Loader, that thing is POWERFUL!

Caterpillar is the Best Skid Steer in my opinion!

I have several brands of SkidSteer loaders that I like, but I think my favorite to use, would be the Caterpillar Rubber Track machines, I like the easy to use controls, and I think the ride is more comfortable than the other Skid Loader brands. I think Cat is the best Skid Steer. But I like the dependability of the Case, and the Bobcat for easy to find parts. John deere and New Holland are pretty good also. The other are Takeuchi, Mustang and Gehl, I like the fact that those have the steel undercarriage on their multi-terrain loaders, but still have the joystick controls like the Caterpiller Skid Steer do. If I was looking for a Used Skid Steer, and I could only have one, I would have to go with a Cat 277B.
